Senior Cloud Engineer

ABOUT THE JOB

This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-skilled agile team in the Digital Tribe within IT Delivery, in which you will be part of the development of our core chat bot applications which help customers to service their Admiral products.

IT Delivery is made up of small teams, that are inclusive, open, and collaborative.  We encourage team members to share ideas, solutions and decision making to drive forward the effectiveness of the teams and products that we deliver.

We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Cloud Engineer to contribute to the development of a variety solutions within one of our multidisciplinary Squads.

About You:

Our Cloud Engineers are responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining our cloud-based infrastructure. We are looking for an enthusiastic and inquisitive individual, who can think creatively to solve problems and meet technical requirements. You must have a keen interest in cloud engineering and be ready to research and learn new tools, technologies and patterns as required.

As we work within the Agile/Scrum framework, we are looking for someone who can work both independently and as part of a team within a fast-paced and changing environment. This requires an individual who can deliver to agreed timelines, communicate effectively, and think innovatively.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing, modifying and/or maintaining chatbot applications. Chatbot engineers code, test, debug, and document chatbot applications, defined largely by infrastructure-as-code on the Google Cloud Platform
  • Implementation and delivery of relevant coding technologies to defined standards.
  • Implementation and execution of thorough unit testing and version control.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies and their suitability to business demands.
  • Maintaining existing solutions and identifying/remediating technical debt.
  • Applying Security Best Practice to our GCP solutions.
  • Producing applicable technical documentation.
  • Actively contribute to Scrum ceremonies such as Refinement, Sprint Planning and Retrospective.
  • Working directly with the Product Owner and business to develop solutions to support the product roadmap.
  • Working alongside and collaborating with other Software Engineers in the tribes.
  • Support the deployment of changes into the production environment and aid in the investigation of live issues or incidents.
  • Ensuring the software delivered is performant, secure and scalable.
  • Code reviewing/monitoring coding standards

Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to creatively think around a brief and challenge it if necessary.
  • Thorough knowledge of all relevant coding languages.
  • Understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and practices.
  • Prioritisation and time management skills to hit deadlines.
  • Confidence to communicate ideas effectively to peers, seniors, and management.
  • Ability to produce quality documentation, as necessary.
  • Able to transfer knowledge between other members of the team.
  • A focus on continuous improvement.
  • Able to plan and coordinate technical requirements and tasks across the team.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving and a desire for continual learning and improvement.

Technical Skills:

Essential:

  • Developing and deploying Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform/TerraGrunt.
  • In depth knowledge of CI/CD concepts and using tools such as Jenkins/Azure Devops
  • Working knowledge with Cloud technologies such as Azure and GCP
  • Knowledge of version control systems such as Git.
  • Working knowledge of RBAC for cloud providers
  • Understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and practices.

Desirable:

  • Experience of configuring and maintaining GCP managed services such as Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Cloud Function, Cloud Dataflow, Cloud SQL, Artifact Registry, Data Catalogue and Vertex AI.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts (including GCP VPC Networks and Hybrid Networks).
  • Experience of GCP Security Tooling such as Cloud IAM, VPC Service Controls, and Cloud Data Loss Prevention.
  • Experience of configuring GCP Cloud Monitoring and Alerting
  • Working knowledge with any AI/NLP platform (DialogFlow/ Alexa/ Converse.ai/ Amazon Lex etc).

Location:
We are open to discussion around remote working possibilities (UK only)

Interviews for this position first stage process, will be a technical assessment ‘Codility Test’. Second stage process will be an interview and will commence in due course via Microsoft Teams.

We do not have a set salary for this position, as it will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience. We are happy to see CVs from all candidates who meet the requirements and will be happy to discuss the remuneration package.
