Senior Software Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-skilled agile IT delivery team. You will be responsible for supporting a team of developers working on our core customer-facing websites that allow customers to quote, buy and service their Admiral products.

We are a progressive team working with cutting-edge technologies such as Java, Typescript, Angular and best-in-class tools such as Git, Jira and Confluence.

IT Delivery is made up of small teams that are inclusive, open and collaborative. We encourage team members to share ideas, solutions and decision-making to drive the effectiveness of the teams and products we deliver.

Main Duties:

  • Oversee the development and publication of the Quote Engine, with attention to adherence to all marketing brand styles.
  • Responsible for the adherence to all relevant coding technologies to defined standards.
  • Responsible for the generation of good unit test coverage and solid version control.
  • Assist in the introduction of emerging technologies and their suitability to business demands.
  • Production of technical and functional specifications where applicable.
  • Support Squad Lead (Scrum Master) in adherence to Agile Scrum methodology and work towards continuous improvements.
  • Working directly with the Product Owner and business to develop solutions to support the product roadmap.
  • Working alongside and collaborating with other Senior Software Engineers on the team.
  • Support and mentoring for other members of the team.
  • Work with shared services teams to ensure dependencies are raised and managed.
  • Help to develop and promote the long-term technical strategy.
  • Support the deployment of changes into the production environment and aid in investigating live issues or incidents.

Experience and Qualifications Required

Experience and Skills:

  • Ability to creatively think around a brief and challenge it if necessary.
  • Thorough knowledge of all relevant coding languages.
  • Understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and practices.
  • Prioritisation and time management skills to hit deadlines.
  • Confidence to communicate ideas effectively to peers, seniors and management.
  • Ability to produce quality documentation as necessary.
  • Experience providing coaching and transferring knowledge between other members of the team.
  • A focus on continuous improvement.
  • Able to plan and coordinate technical requirements and tasks across the team.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and a desire for continual learning and improvement.

Technical skills

Essential:

  • Good working knowledge of Typescript and Angular.
  • Understanding of data management libraries such as RXJS/NGRX.
  • Good working knowledge of Java.
  • Working in an agile environment.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins.
  • Understanding of version-control systems such as GIT.
  • Good working knowledge of unit testing.
  • Working knowledge/understanding of BDD.
  • Good working knowledge of SQL.
  • Ability to design solutions and cater to non-functional performance and security requirements.

Desirable:

  • Have worked with developing applications for the cloud (Azure).
  • Understanding of AngularJS.
  • Understanding of Docker and/or Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of JSON and executing server requests.
  • Understanding of REST and SOAP.
  • Understanding of Node.js and NPM.

Salary, Benefits and Work-Life Balance

We do not have a set salary for this position, as it will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience. We are happy to see CVs from all candidates who meet the requirements and will be happy to discuss the remuneration package.
