Application Fraud Analytics Manager

The role of Advanced Analytics within Admiral is ever expanding and as the team grows to support business demand we need to introduce new roles into the structure. This is an exciting time to get involved with a growing area that makes a real difference to the bottom line.

The Application Fraud Analytics team is responsible for identifying, building and implementing creative solutions using Machine Learning to identify & prevent fraud on Admiral’s motor policies.

The Role

As an Analytics Development Manager you will have a passion for data and will be eager to drive forward the use of machine learning and advanced analytics throughout the Admiral group. You will be dedicated to Application Fraud and will work hand in hand with the business throughout the process, from training and generating ideas to implementation and tracking model results.

You will be responsible for recruitment, training, developing and managing a small team of data scientists and analysts. The teams role is to develop and implement the solutions that solve our business problems.

As well as supporting the team you will have your own projects where you are required to build and implement machine learning models.

About You

We are looking for an inquisitive and focussed individual, keen to make an impact using innovative analytic methods. You must have significant experience in data and ideally have experience of fraud within financial services.

You must be outstanding at all forms of communication and be organised with good project management skills. You must be comfortable in a culture where decision making is evidenced-based and reliant on rigorous analysis.

Ideally you will be knowledgeable about machine learning or statistics and be ready to expand your skills as the field progresses. You will have experience in mentoring junior members of staff and be eager to take on line management responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Be an advocate for advanced analytics within the Admiral group and drive forward our use of machine learning by identifying new opportunities to develop and apply advanced analytical techniques within Application Fraud
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts and Senior Managers to understand and solve problems by asking the right questions and delivering appropriate solutions.
  • Lead a small team of highly technical modelling specialists and ensure they are encouraged and supported to their full potential, working closely with the Lead Data Scientist.
  • Development, implementation and monitoring of advanced statistical and machine learning models. Also have oversight of the teams ML modelling projects.
  • Manage teams backlog and prioritize workload of the team.
  • Ensure that all projects adhere to our standards and governance processes for Advanced Analytics.
  • Remain up to date with trends and developments in technology and methods in the data science community.

Desirable skills and experience

  • 3+ years experience working in a relevant role.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a STEM or relevant subject
  • Exceptional numerical ability and creative thinker / problem solver
  • Ability to initiate and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance
  • Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to confidently challenge business leaders using simple and compelling language
  • Receptive to new ideas and opportunities to innovate
  • Ability to coach individuals to reach their full potential
  • Ability to build and review machine learning models

Location

We are open to discussion around remote working possibilities (UK only). Our whole business is still working remotely. We will provide you with everything you need to work comfortably from home. We expect you to be working remotely for the foreseeable future. Once it’s safe to return to the office, you can agree your on-site days at the office with your Line Manager. Ideally we would like to see you at least once or twice a week at our Cardiff office but we do offer some flexibility depending on your location.
