Security Officer

Security Officer
London (Zones 1-5 inclusive):
· 12 hour rotating shift pattern £36,847 (including allowances and overtime)
· Day shift £32,292 (including allowances and overtime)

Salary: £32,292 – £36,847 (including allowances and overtime)

Say hello to varied work, lots of learning and everyone who walks through our doors.

At MI5, we safeguard the country against threats such as terrorism, espionage, cyber-attacks and organised crime. Alongside our British Intelligence partners MI6 and GCHQ, we provide the UK government with the information they need to defend national security. And when you join us, the work you do every day will help us achieve our goal of protecting the UK, resulting in a rewarding role, with lots of potential.

As an MI5 Security Officer, you’ll be the face of our service, welcoming a variety of visitors and helping to ensure the safety of our people, places and property. This means you’ll be meeting a wide range of people every day, chatting with them calmly and professionally, and helping them to feel safe and secure.

It’s interesting and varied work – and every day will be different. As well as providing a reassuring presence, your day could include anything from processing visitors and checking vehicles to monitoring CCTV and completing accurate logs. And all the time, you’ll be keeping an eye out for anything unusual. With extensive training tailored to meet your needs and a supportive team around you – along with a personal mentor – you’ll soon settle in. You’ll even have the chance to study for formal, accredited qualifications and develop your career in our security teams or, if you wish, other parts of the organisation.

We’re looking for great team players who are keen to learn and used to dealing with a range of people and a variety of situations. So, you’ll need a warm, welcoming demeanour and the ability to put everyone at ease. You don’t need any security experience, but a good eye for detail, some basic IT skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure will definitely be useful. And, because personal fitness is an important aspect of the role, you’ll be expected to maintain yours throughout the duration of the placement.

In return, you’ll enjoy benefits including 25-30 days’ annual leave, and 10.5 days of public and privilege holidays, as well as an excellent pension scheme. Plus, you’ll be part of a supportive, inclusive environment where you’ll be encouraged to develop your skills and experience and empowered to build a rewarding, long-term career with an organisation dedicated to protecting the UK and its people.

This is a full-time role and you’ll be working either day shifts, Monday to Friday, or a 24-hour shift pattern of two days and two nights, then four days off, which provides great flexibility.
