Global Network HVAC Technician

We’re MI6, also known as the Secret Intelligence Service. Our mission is to protect the security and economic wellbeing of the UK from overseas threats such as regional instability, terrorism, and cyber-attacks. Working across the globe and in close partnership with MI5 and GCHQ, we help the Government to counter these threats through the provision of secret intelligence. A role in MI6 will see you providing vital support to this work, within a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.

The Role:

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced HVAC Technician to join our specialist maintenance team. In this valuable technical role, you’ll manage the upkeep of our global estate, ensuring HVAC systems are safe, effective and efficient at our sites all over the world. You may therefore be asked to travel at short notice, including weekends. You can expect to be abroad for 150-170 days per year, so you will always be supported by our team of reliable and professional technicians – we’re a small team and rely on each other, whether that be from physically being overseas on a job together or at the end of the phone. This is a truly unique role you won’t find anywhere else.

Wherever you’re working, you’ll install and repair HVAC systems in commercial and domestic premises, using your knowledge of mechanical systems. Day to day, you’ll diagnose faults, rewire systems and monitor them as necessary, observing relevant safety standards. You’ll also install electrical systems that form part of HVAC installations and diagnose faults remotely across systems such as DX, VRV and VRF. Whatever the task, you’ll assess, and scope works, identifying what equipment’s needed, and provide reports on predicted costs.

In short, you’ll provide a global reactive and planned maintenance service, working independently to locate, diagnose and rectify faults. If sub-contractors are involved, you’ll see that their performance meets the required standards. You’ll also advise project managers on larger works, provide exceptional customer service and support other tradespeople on electrical, plumbing and building projects. In occupied office areas, you’ll do all you can to minimise disruption.

About You

At this level, we’ll expect you to tackle maintenance, fault finding, repairs, installation and safety compliance. You’ll also be mentoring junior colleagues, so sound expertise is vital.

To join us, you must have completed an HVAC Apprenticeship or a Level 3 qualification in HVAC/Mechanical Engineering. You’ll also have a current F Gas qualification and manufacturers’ installation training. Along with these qualifications, you’ll have practical experience of HVAC wiring systems, BMS systems, HVAC/plumbing maintenance and risk assessment/COSHH. If you can also communicate clearly both on paper and in person, we’d like to hear from you.

Training and Development:

Continuous professional and personal development is all part of the package. We’ll help you keep up with evolving standards and changes within the industry. If you need further training on electrical installation and maintenance, we’ll be happy to oblige. That way, your skillset will always be up to scratch.

Rewards and Benefits

You’ll receive a starting salary of £37,958 – £42,458 and other benefits including:

25 Days Annual Leave automatically rising to 30 days after 5 years’ service, and an additional 10.5 days public and privilege holidays
Opportunities to be recognised through our employee performance scheme
Interest-free season ticket loan
Excellent pension scheme
Cycle to work scheme
Facilities such as a gym, restaurant and on-site coffee bars (at some locations)
Paid parental and adoption leave.

Equal Opportunities

At MI6 diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. To protect the UK, we need a truly diverse workforce that reflects the society we serve. This includes diversity in every sense of the word: those with different backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, ways of thinking and those with disabilities or neurodivergent conditions. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds.
