Career & Professional Development Adviser

Overview:

The Royal Society of Chemistry seeks a Career & Professional Development Adviser on a permanent full-time basis (35-hour week, with flexibility, including some evenings and weekends).

At the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) we embrace flexibility and offer hybrid working, which means our teams come together when they need to collaborate. Although this role is contractually based at our Cambridge office, you will also be able to work from home within the UK, with the expectation that you will attend our offices and travel as needed for your role. In this role you will attend our Cambridge office at least one day per month (initially more frequently to support your induction) and occasional UK travel may be required. If you need flexible working arrangements, please outline this in your application.

As an organisation with more than 50,000 members in 125 countries, and a global network of thousands working with, and passionate about the chemical sciences, the RSC champions the value of our profession and helps to inspire the next generation.

As a Career & Professional Development Adviser for the RSC, you will be central to delivering on our commitment to set and maintain professional standards and to support and connect practising chemists. By delivering high quality career advice and information you will:

Provide tangible benefit to members throughout their careers in our role as their professional body.
Increase member retention and engagement.
Influence the promotion and maintenance of professional standards in science.
Support diversity in the chemical science workforce.
You will be part of a small team dedicated to providing career advice and information through individual consultations, webinars, articles, booklets, and the delivery of events and workshops. You will also work closely with other colleagues in our Accreditation & Careers team as well as Membership, Communities, Education, the Chemists’ Community Fund, Enterprise Impact Programmes and Policy and Evidence, to provide services that support professional development in the chemical sciences.

We are looking for:

A degree (science related is desirable) and a qualification in career advice and guidance or equivalent.
Strong knowledge of professional education and lifelong learning activities and appreciation of the value of professional awards and continued professional development.
Understanding of the range of professions within chemical science and the routes into them, of organisations that employ chemical scientists and of relevant employment trends.
Demonstrable experience in advising individuals in career and professional development and in designing and delivering career-related services for individuals.
Experience in managing market research and data-related products, surveys or initiatives involving multiple stakeholders to ensure that pay and reward products remain a relevant source of chemistry workforce information.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
When applying, please provide an up-to-date CV and a supporting statement (no more than 500 words) indicating how your skills / expertise match the competencies outlined in the job description here.

At the RSC, we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce and welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds to apply. We particularly encourage applications from disabled and ethnic minority candidates. As a part of the Disability Confident Scheme, we endeavour, where possible, to offer an interview to candidates meeting the essential criteria of the role, who has a substantial physical/mental impairment which impacts their ability to carry out day-to-day tasks. We are committed to making our recruitment processes accessible to all and as part of this, we are flexible in the ways we give and receive information. If you would like to apply using a different format, please contact the Recruitment Team at jobs@rsc.org or on +44 (0) 1223 432229 and we will do our best to put any reasonable adjustments in place.
