Board Trustee

Pregnant Then Screwed was founded by Joeli Brearley on International Women’s Day in 2015 after her own experience of pregnancy and maternity discrimination. It is now a charity with 14 members of staff (9 full-time equivalent), 170 volunteers, an online community of over 350k and an increasingly global reputation.

Our vision is for a society where care is valued and in which pregnant women and mothers in all their diversity are enabled to fulfil their potential; creating a stronger, happier, better future for us all.

As the voice of working mothers in the UK, we maintain a deep connection with our beneficiaries by:

▪️ Providing advice and support to mothers, boosting their confidence and wellbeing, equipping them to challenge workplace discrimination, and assisting them in finding work arrangements that suit them.

▪️ Conducting impactful research to educate and inform, leading crucial discussions.

▪️ Advocating for change, shedding light on the unique challenges faced by working mothers, and challenging societal stereotypes.

Trustees are integral volunteers who steer the course of Pregnant Then Screwed. We’re currently seeking up to 5 new trustees as some current board members are concluding their terms this year and we’re keen to diversify our board.

These roles are voluntary, but reasonable expenses incurred (such as travel, accommodation, and subsistence for in-person meetings) will be covered.

It’s an exciting opportunity to join us on this journey at a time of considerable growth. So, if you’re passionate about our mission, possess the skills and experience we’re seeking, and can dedicate at least 1 day per month to support our cause, we’d love to hear from you!

SPECIFIC DUTIES

As a trustee of Pregnant Then Screwed, your role would involve ensuring compliance with our governing document, charity law, company law, and other relevant regulations. You will oversee the
pursuit of our defined objectives and the exclusive use of resources towards those ends.

You will utilise your unique skills, knowledge, and experiences to aid the board in making sound decisions on PTS’s strategic direction, policy reviews, goal setting, and performance evaluation.
Safeguarding our reputation and values, ensuring effective administration, and financial stability, are also paramount responsibilities.

The Board, led by the Chair, is also responsible for holding the CEO and the senior PTS team to account.

TIME COMMITMENT

You should allow for a time commitment of approximately 1 day a month to prepare for meetings, and respond via email to ongoing developments. Attend 4 board meetings annually, typically held online. Attend 1 or 2 in-person strategy and development days annually. Review board papers and providing input if unable to attend meetings.
Allocate time for quarterly sub-committee meetings, occasional disciplinary hearings, and recruitment panels.

For all successful candidates we will arrange a thorough induction to our work and there will be on-going opportunities for further training and development.

The current Board is a group of dedicated individuals with a wide range of skills and experiences from the creative, cultural, marketing, charity and business sectors, who volunteer their time to guide the organisation strategically.
