Investment Accountant

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Group Finance team to join as an Investment Accountant (we will take CV’s at all levels of PQE).

Reporting to the Insurance Accounting Manager, this role covers all aspects of investment accounting for the Group’s UK insurance entities, as well as being a Group subject matter expert, playing a key part in accounting policies relating to IFRS9.

Close working relationships will be built with the Investments Management team to develop a deep understanding of Group investment strategy, and its accounting implications, as well as to embed more structured and informative reporting of investment performance to the relevant Boards and Committees

You’ll need to be motivated and hardworking with strong analytical, time management and organisational skills and a focus on data quality and control.

The role will suit a qualified professional in a recognised accounting qualification, ideally with experience of investment accounting experience for Financial Services Groups.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and posting of monthly journal postings for investments held by the Group’s UK insurers.
  • Perform control account reconciliations.
  • Working closely with the Group’s Investments team to produce monthly investment income analysis and reports to relevant Boards and Committees.
  • Supporting Investment decisions at a Group level by bringing an understanding of the accounting implications.
  • Group reporting to parent company (half year, year-end).
  • Preparation of year end statutory accounts and assistance with external audit.
  • Submission of ad hoc regulatory returns (IPT, ONS).
  • Provide additional general support and complete ad-hoc tasks as required.

Required Skills:

  • Qualified in a recognised accounting qualification.
  • Experience in accounting for investments under IFRS9 preferable.
  • Financial services experience.
  • Good knowledge of financial controls.
  • Self-motivated, proactive with a can-do attitude towards work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ideally trained in an external audit firm or with internal audit experience
